Starting your own business and picking the right niche in no time

Kaina is a first-generation Latina, born and raised in Chicago. The sweet-hearted optimism in her writing aims to connect to and lift the spirit of the listener. Through the mentorship of Chicago natives like The O'My’s, her multidisciplinary work around the city with various organizations, and collaboration with her peers, she has been able to find a sound for herself that is gentle yet full of soul and intent. She recently released a 3-track EP entitled “4u” that follows up her last release in collaboration with Burns Twins called “sweet asl.” She continues to write songs while consistently playing shows around the city, most recently as a direct opener for Kali Uchis at Concord Music Hall, Jamila Woods at House of Vans, and playing Mamby on the Beach 2017. She embodies a soft, savory voice that’s sharp enough to remind you of what happens when you get too close to the sun.

Calid B. is a Chicago-based producer/emcee and DJ pioneering his own sound: Afrobang. Afrobang is inspired by his upbringing which is firmly rooted in what it means to be a black man in America today, but also reaches back to his father’s Cote D’Ivoirian origins. The energy behind Afrobang fuses together contemporary hip hop production elements like trap drums, synths, and 808s with the tribal percussions and chants from West Africa. Afrobang is more than just music - it is a necessary movement, culture, and a community Calid cultivates in Chicago and beyond.

Known as a “lawyer by day, DJ by night,” Alan King is one of Chicago’s original house music DJs and one of the early members of the legendary Chosen Few DJs crew. The Chosen Few DJs produce one of the largest house music festival events in the world, and Alan regularly plays at clubs and events throughout the United States and beyond, including the Winter Music Conference in Miami, the Amsterdam Dance Event, and the Tribe Tambor Cruise.  In addition, Alan’s monthly residency at Hyde Park’s Chant over the last 5+ years is one of Chicago’s hottest parties.  Following the untimely death of his friend and mentor Frankie Knuckles, Alan was tapped to perform at several celebrations of Frankie’s legacy, including the official international Boiler Room tribute, and he currently serves on the advisory board of the Frankie Knuckles Foundation.

Text Block #1

Starting your own business and picking the right niche in no time

Multi-talented musician, producer and DJ Mark de Clive-Lowe (MdCL) performs an epic three hour three-shows-in-one live set for the very first time. Known for cross-pollinating genres with an uncanny ease and as comfortable performing in the jazz club as he is rocking a dance floor, MdCL puts on an extended live show especially for Chicago. Kicking off with his solo live remix set, MdCL literally hand-makes records on the fly, remixing acapellas from scratch with his drum machine, keyboards and effects - exclusive versions that will only ever be heard in this precise time and place. Then he’s joined by legendary jazz vocalist Dwight Trible, saxophonist Teodross Avery, and Isaiah Spencer on drums for a remixed tribute to the living master Pharoah Sanders - spiritual jazz collides head first with the beats and technology. The three-hour showdown wraps up with MdCL being joined by Philly’s First Lady of House - Lady Alma. The two’s collaborations span almost 15 years and their chemistry together live is truly uplifting. All in all, a not-to-be-missed musical adventure through jazz, beats, and house music that has to be seen to be believed.

Starting your own business and picking the right niche in no time

Detroit based Amp Fiddler is a celebrated soul/funk musician who has shared stages and studios with everyone from Prince and George Clinton to Primal Scream and underground Detroit producer Moodyman. Amp also played a pivotal role in bringing Slum Village to global attention, and was a friend and collaborator with their producer, the late J Dilla. His warm, expansive mellifluous music takes stylistic cues from all these encounters, but emerges as earthy, supremely relaxed, and rooted in the funk and soul that Amp feels most connected to. And, as he suggests, it is music for the head as much as food for the heart and soul.
